***News Flash - Fabrik 1.0***
Thursday, 16 November 2006

We are proud to announce that in 2007 “MosForms” will officially become “Fabrik”.

And in order to celebrate we are going to release:

Fabrik 1.0

The first fully supported professional subscription version of mosForms.

Fabrik is no longer just a form creation and database management component. It has evolved to be a robust, feature rich tool for application development. But don’t worry you wont need to be a programmer to use Fabrik!

Users of Fabrik 1.0 will enjoy:

  • A dedicated professional support staff

  • Concise and clear documentation

  • Flash tutorials

  • New Fabrik applications

  • Design compatibility with wireless devices

  • An aggressive road map to continuing Fabrik development

Current users of mosForms need not be alarmed; Fabrik will continue its fine tradition of supporting the open source community by providing an open source version of Fabrik, Known as “Fabrik OS”.

If you are in a hurry and want the best support, newest features and access to all the benefits that subscription can provide, then please subscribe to Fabrik 1.0

But if your not in a hurry and don’t mind waiting for the newest features or can get by with a lower level of support, feel free to use Fabrik OS!

So stay tuned, the count down has begun.

Please discuss this announcement on the forum

Tag Cloud Module
Wednesday, 04 October 2006

Just for the fun this evening I made a quick Joomla module that creates a tag cloud ( a la Flickr as we say in France ;o) ) based on any given table's column containing meta data. An example of it can be found on the jMarks site

Joomla 1.5 compatibility
Wednesday, 04 October 2006

Just a quick note to say that I've been testing mosForms (current SVN version) with Joomla 1.5 Beta today, and (with a few adjustments) have got it working. Please note that you will need to enable Joomls's legacy mode from within the confiuration page to get mosForms to work

MosForms 0.4 should then be compatible with Mambo, Joomla 1.0.x and Joomla 1.5, and I intend to support all of these CMS's with the 0.4 version

That being said I really do like the look of the new Joomla 1.5 framework and as such mosForms 0.4 doesn't really take advantage of it. So development of newer versions will start to focus on making the component soley usable in Joomla 1.5 +.

mosForms 0.4 will continue to be supported and I'll fix bugs and secuirity issues with the code base as and when they appear

Table Mambot Released
Friday, 22 September 2006

Following on from the new mosForm form mambot, a mosForm table mambot is now available for download.

Please note this requires SVN version 160 or above!

Once installed and published the mambot is used with this syntax:
{includetable table=12}
where 12 is replaced with the id of the table you want to include

Both the form and table mambots are used on theWhitecliff 4x4 Off Road Experience website. The most obvious being on the home page for the vote form. The table mambot is used on the group price list

New mambot available for mosForms SVN Revision 159
Friday, 22 September 2006

A new mosForm mambot has been released on joomla forge.

This is a preview release and will NOT work with mosForms 0.4b, instead you will need to be running SVN version 159 or above.

The advantage of this new mambot is that is no longer uses file_get_contents(), a PHP function which is often not available on servers. The change also provides some speed improvements over the previous version

New module released
Monday, 11 September 2006

I've released a new module for mosForms which displays table data.

It requires the lastest SVN version of mosforms to run correctly.

You can download it from joomla forge

An example of it in action can be seen on the home page of the jMarks demo site. The module shows the last ten posted links.

mosForms 0.4b released
Tuesday, 25 July 2006

I've decide to release mosForms0.4b, which you can download from here

Whilst its been a long time during releases, this is not an indication of a stalled project, rather that a couple of the projects I've been working on have stretched mosForms beyond what is was previously capable of, and thus required a rather large rewrite of the core code. I hope those of you who have been following the SVN version can appreciate this :D

This release should solve a lot of the problems assocaited with 0.4a_6, and in my oppinion is a fairly stable release

This version brings a little bit of ajax in the administration, primarily for auto updating the element drop downs based on the selected table, I've used xajax and script.aculo.us. I've had reports of issues with the ajax in Safari, but I don't have a Mac to test on, so if anyone can confirm this that would be really appreciated!

A new feature in this release is the ability to export/install groups of tables as applications. This should allow the community to create premade installers for common applications such as job sites, or accommodation listings

A new search filter option has been added, which when activated, will allow users to create refined searches on the table data

Prefilters can now be applied to tables, so that only records meeting certain requirements are shown

patTemplating is now available for both forms, tables, and tables grouped on a given field, some introductory information can be found on this sites wiki

Element calculations have been added, so you can sum, average, total, or median a columns data

Adding database joins is still not as smooth an experience as I would like - currently you're required to add a join, save the table and add a second join, hopefully in time I'll be able to smooth out this process.

CSV output of table data from the front end is now possible, along with creating RSS feeds of the tables data

I'll be off on holiday for the next three weeks, with a drive though Spain to Portugal for the boom festival which promises to be amazing, but will be available afterwards for feed back
